Dr. Shirey is Dean and Fay B. Ireland Endowed Chair in Nursing at The University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB School of Nursing and serves as Chief Nurse Administrator and Director of the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for International Nursing as well as a member of the UAB Medicine Enterprise Board of Directors. She has garnered over $20 million in extramural funding and co-founded the Heart Failure Transitional Care Services for Adults Clinic at UAB Hospital. She is a Fellow of four national academies and recipient of numerous honors, including the AONL Nurse Researcher Award and the Sigma International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame.
