Dr. Kirschenfeld was a pioneering physician, educator, and visionary whose work transformed healthcare and medical education in Alabama. Born in Austria, he immigrated to the United States as a child and later graduated magna cum laude from Brooklyn College and earned his medical degree from New York University. After serving as a Flight Surgeon at Maxwell Air Force Base, he practiced rural medicine before founding the Montgomery Internal Medicine Residency Program. His leadership laid the foundation for the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Montgomery Regional Medical Campus, leaving a lasting legacy of compassionate care, physician training, and service to the people of Alabama.
